5 Simple Tips for a Bright, White Wedding Smile By Doctor John Evanish, Horizon Dental Care

On one of the happiest occasions of your life you surely want to have the best smile of your life too.  To make yours sparkle on your big day there’s some simple things you can do right now to look your best before your nuptials roll around. Below, we’ve listed some tips to try to get your smile wedding-ready.

Brush and Floss Regularly

Right now, you may be consumed with all the wedding details and planning, but this is no time to forget about following your dental regime. It may seem obvious but brushing and flossing are the most important tools for keeping a healthy mouth and shiny teeth. Brush twice, floss at least once and rinse with an antibacterial mouthwash every day to prevent cavities and improve your oral health.

Schedule Your Dental Check-up

The last thing you need is a toothache on you wedding day or honeymoon. If you haven’t been seeing your dentist regularly do it as soon as possible. By scheduling an appointment a few months ahead of your wedding, you can avoid painful and possibly expensive problems right before the big day when time and money are both tight.

Something as simple as going to your dentist twice a year is one of the easiest things you can do to improve your smile. Aside from checking for cavities and oral diseases, and doing routine cleaning, your dentist can also provide other options for making your smile even brighter.

While you are there ask your dentist about a cosmetic consultation to discuss professional teeth whitening or other cosmetic procedures to enhance their appearance.

Consider Cosmetic Dentistry

If your pearly whites have yellowed with age, or they are stained from coffee, red wine or certain medications you can try a whitening toothpaste or strips with the ADA Seal of Acceptance.  These products can improve your appearance over time.  Do not try home remedies that you may have discovered online. They can actually do more harm than good.

For the best, and quickest results talk to you dentist. There are professional options such as custom fit trays with whitening solution that you can use at home as a nightly regimen for a few days.  Even better is an in-office whitening procedure, like Zoom. Zoom Whitening takes about an hour and you will see the results immediately. Plus, you also get a maintenance pack to take home for touch ups later.  Whitening can make your teeth feel more sensitive so try to schedule the in-office appointment or start your tray regimen at a month or two before the big day.

Correcting cracked, broken, or missing teeth will likely mean some time with your dentist. Crowns, Veneers, orthodontics, bonding and implants are all options to makeover your smile and they can take a few weeks to even a few months depending on what results you hope to achieve. Ask your dentist for a consultation to see what your best alternative might be to fit your needs and budget.

Prepare for the Big Day

If your bridesmaids are putting together an emergency kit, ask one of them to carry floss, and a compact mirror to check and avoid anything in your teeth.

For the bride and the groom – be sure to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and ward off bad breath while chatting with your guests.  Also chewing sugarless gum for a bit after eating or drinking can help.

Choose the right lipstick – Select a red that works with your skin tone. The right shade of red can make you smile look brighter and whiter. Experiment ahead of time to get the right shade.  If you have yellowing a blue-based or pink-based undertone will help diminish the appearance of yellow stains on your teeth. Be careful no tot go too dark or too red you will achieve the opposite effect.

Enjoy your day!

Nothing makes a smile more radiant than when it comes from within.  Now that you are joined together in marriage, enjoy each other and your amazing day. Relax and let yourself take in all the magic you have created and smile!
